Family history: Michal Polaczek and Wawara Kowal

My grandparents (Michal Polaczek aka Puliatchk and Wawara Kowal) left Kosiv in 1898 and traveled to the Hawaiian Islands. I'm interested in knowing something about the history of the village at that time to get some understanding for the reasons they left. In addition, is there a way you can assist me in seeing if there are Kowals and Polaczeks who are living in the area?
